Home repair is ok...Even for a classy lady. |

Ever wish you knew how to hang a ceiling fan? Lay ceramic tile? Install a toilet? Ok… maybe installing a toilet would not be everyone’s desired repair job to do, but have you ever wanted to learn how to do home repairs instead of paying hundreds of dollars for someone to come to your home and do them for you? Not being the most hands on, mechanically inclined individual is ok. But, do you have desire to learn? While shopping at the local Home Depot (Lowe’s does this too), I saw they were offering classes on Saturday morning on how to install a ceiling fan. I signed up! The class was attended by both men and women. In fact, there were 4 women and 3 men! The instructors could not have been nicer and answered all of our questions. By the end of the class, we all felt comfortable with the steps for installing a ceiling fan and also appreciated the safety tips when dealing with electricity. In trying to save money on my monthly utility bill, ceiling fans were a priority in each room. Installing them after the class was a piece of cake! It was amazing how easy they were to hang and the breeze from them felt wonderful. Before the class, I would have had to hire someone to install them – paying about $100. Instead, I put that $100 into my savings account. Other classes taken include: ceramic tile and almost ashamed to admit – toilet repair. With each class has come more and more confidence and knowledge on how to fix basic problems. Home repair is not just a man’s occupation or role. I applaud those ladies that attended the training classes and have installed their own fans and reaping the rewards of attending a class to learn simple home repair. Sure was a fun way to save money and what a great sense of accomplishment!
